Mick Jones….the CLASH!
He wrote some of the greatest tunes in PunkRock/Rock+Roll history! London Calling! But they were put together with pretty simple chords…He was just very clever how he put all the parts together! Take an E, G, A, D and maybe a B minor and he’d put together a great tune! I…I’ve really come to appreciate that as I’ve gotten older. I’ve never been impressed buy the guys who can play really fast, a million miles an hour…and sound like a thousand other players…
ah well, time for another beer…
Mike
Hey, great list. I’m waiting for the inevitable “Why is xxx on the list??!?!?” When we talk about guitar, people often jump to the conclusion that we’re talking about “rock guitar.” But the guitar has become central in many different musical styles. That being said, if it were up to me I’d probably try to squeeze Eric Clapton in there somewhere, but I’ve heard/watched most of these players (excepting Wes and Merle) and think that these are all strong offerings. Yeah, and Chet Atkins is pretty amazing.
all of them are old.. give us some new ones that have made a difference please. but youre right. the above were gods of their age
No keith Richards?? Hmmmmmmm
btwh there is just one problem with what you ask. There really aren’t any new ones that have made a difference, and the above were not gods of their age, they are still running the show
How are Django Rinehart and Doc Watson not on this list?
I think your list is spot on. Those old guys paved the way. I’ll throw a few other names in the ring but they don’t quite have the same pull. Frank Zappa, Leo Kottke and Michael Hedges.
Right on man! Good list. Glad you left out some of the obvious rock choices. Rock is not the only guitar genre!
i cant believe that carlos santana isnt included in this list because he is sooo overlooked just listen to one of his songs!!!!
Keep in mind guys this isn’t just about how well they play ,but about how they influenced other guitarist.
